In honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, Big Bend Hospice is getting crafty! We are working on creating fidget blankets and fidget mats for our patients living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Patients with Alzheimer’s and Dementia often experience increased agitation and anxiety, sometimes resulting in behavioral issues. Experts say allowing them to explore Fidget Blankets with different tactile mediums such as buttons, zippers, pockets can ease, distract and engage while providing Caregivers with a brief break In between tasks.
Thanks to the donations from wonderful community members, we have been able to collect all the required supplies needed for our upcoming “Craft & Learn” event in Wakulla County on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022 at 10:00 am. Trained BBH Volunteer Laura Rozell reports that it only takes her around 4 hours to make one lap-sized mat. Laura also states that is “so much fun and I am enjoying getting creative. Knowing it benefits patients of Big Bend Hospice makes it even more worthwhile”. All of the supplies will be provided, including thread, needles, placemats, and various fidget items. While participants are learning how to create their blankets, BBH will provide a brief overview of the services it provides to patients and families. All you need is the desire to help and some basic sewing skills, such as sewing on buttons. Snacks and refreshments are provided!
If you would like more information or are interested in attending, please contact Kara Walker at (850) 878-5310 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. Big Bend Hospice is so thankful for the tremendous support it receives from the community!
