Time is one of the most precious gifts we can give—and our hospice volunteers offer theirs freely, generously, and with boundless compassion. Every hour spent, every mile driven, every hand held is a testament to their kindness. But what does that really look like over a year? Let’s reflect on the extraordinary impact of these selfless individuals in 2024.

Patient-Family Volunteers: A Presence That Matters

Imagine walking into a quiet room where a patient’s eyes light up at the familiar face of a hospice volunteer. This moment of connection happened 3,964 times this year. A dedicated team of 230 volunteers gave 7,773.75 hours of their time—sitting bedside, reading stories, sharing laughter, and simply being present. Their generosity extended beyond moments of companionship; they also drove 30,647 miles to ensure patients and families received the support they needed.

Admin Volunteers: The Backbone of Our Mission

While some volunteers serve at the bedside, others work behind the scenes to keep our hospice operations running smoothly. This year, 320 administrative volunteers stepped up for 2,359 shifts, dedicating 6,273.47 hours to essential tasks. Whether organizing paperwork, calling PCGs, or welcoming families at our inpatient units, their quiet dedication is the steady force that keeps our mission moving forward.

Transition Supportive Palliative Care Interns: The Future of Hospice Care

A special group of 46 volunteer interns brought fresh energy and dedication to hospice care, providing 1,799.46 hours of compassionate support through 590 visits. These students are not only gaining invaluable experience—they are shaping the future of palliative care with their empathy, enthusiasm, and willingness to serve.

Oak Tree Treasures Volunteers: Small Acts, Big Impact

Even the smallest acts of kindness create ripples. In December alone, 21 volunteers gave 75 hours of their time to Oak Tree Treasures, our hospice thrift store. Every item sorted and every shelf stocked directly supports hospice care, proving that even retail work can be an act of love.

Why We Celebrate Our Volunteers

Hospice volunteers remind us of what truly matters. They give their time, their hearts, and their unwavering presence to those who need it most. In a world that often moves too fast, they slow down, hold hands, and listen. Their impact is immeasurable, their kindness unforgettable, and their service invaluable.

To every volunteer who has given their time this year—thank you.
You are the heart of hospice.
