By 2040, the Sunshine State is expected to have almost 7 million older adults, with more than 1.2 million of those age 85 or older.
To address this growing need, the Department of Geriatrics at Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine has received a $5 million federal grant to enhance age-friendly training statewide coordinated under Resources & Education for Aging, Community, and Health (REACH). Big Bend Hospice is proud to be one of the partners benefiting from this initiative.
Enhancing Healthcare for Florida’s Aging Population
The grant will fund training and resources to help healthcare providers across Florida better serve the state’s aging residents. By creating age-friendly health systems, the initiative aims to improve care for seniors, addressing not just medical needs but also social and emotional aspects of aging.
Supporting Career Growth for Big Bend Hospice Employees
The grant also supports workforce development, including Big Bend Hospice’s CNA-LPN bridge program, which helps employees grow their careers in geriatrics. This program will equip our team with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to provide the highest quality care for seniors.
Looking Ahead
With Florida’s aging population, this initiative is crucial to ensuring seniors receive the care and attention they deserve. Big Bend Hospice is honored to be part of this important effort and is committed to helping build a future where healthcare systems are truly age friendly.
