Big Bend Hospice’s Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House provides general inpatient hospice care in a tranquil, homelike setting for patients in a variety of circumstances. Services can include Crisis Care or Respite Care.
Located off Mahan Center Boulevard in Tallahassee, the Dozier House offers the hospitality of 12 private rooms and around-the-clock family visitation privileges. You’ll find a common area and beautiful garden areas for gathering and reflecting with family and friends.
Big Bend Hospice is your local expert on hospice, a philosophy of care focused on relieving and managing pain instead of curing illness.
General inpatient care is provided 24/7 by hospice-trained nurses, aides, physicians, social workers, chaplains, volunteers, and music therapists who work together to help the patient and family with what is most important to them. We provide patients with short-term treatment and comfort from difficult or challenging symptoms that cannot be managed at home. We focus on symptom management when patients have decided they no longer want treatment for serious illnesses or conditions.
Respite Care provides temporary full-time care of patients for up to five days. This level of care provides caregivers a respite from the daily duties of caring for a loved one in their last six months of life.
Patients who are more fragile and vulnerable likely are more suited for the First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care, the inpatient hospice care unit Big Bend Hospice operates on the third floor of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Yes. Our staff of highly trained medical experts, act with compassionate purpose. The Dozier Hospice House atmosphere is calm and family-like. We focus on making patients comfortable by relieving pain and suffering. Once we have done that, we provide a human touch when desired – visiting with families, listening to patients, and sharing experiences.

How do I pay for hospice care?
Services and care provided at Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House are covered in full by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances. We work with families to determine any costs associated with an inpatient stay, including respite. Medicare benefits will cover up to five days of respite care if your hospice interdisciplinary team approves.
Usually, there are no additional charges or co-payments billed to the patient. If charges do occur, such as room and board at the hospice house, thanks to the Big Bend Hospice Foundation and the generous support from our community – no patient is ever refused care based on the ability to pay.
