In honor of National Nursing Assistants Week (6/12 to 6/18/2025), Big Bend Hospice proudly celebrates the compassionate, dedicated Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who play an essential role in delivering high-quality end-of-life care to patients and families across the Big Bend region.

Often described as the heart of hands-on care, CNAs are with patients through some of life’s most vulnerable moments. At Big Bend Hospice, they provide critical support with dignity and compassion—assisting with personal care, observing changes in condition, and offering comforting presence during times of emotional and physical distress.

At Big Bend Hospice (BBH), our CNAs are not just caregivers; they are companions, listeners, and trusted members of each patient’s care team. Their work often goes unnoticed by the public, but to our patients and families, their presence is invaluable.

With specialized training in hospice and palliative care, BBH CNAs offer far more than physical support. They ensure comfort, preserve dignity, and create meaningful connections that embody the mission of Big Bend Hospice: compassionate care for all stages of life’s final journey.

From supporting patients in their homes to assisting at the two inpatient hospice units (IPUs) – the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House and First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care – and throughout our 8-county service area, BBH CNAs are a vital part of our interdisciplinary team. Their daily commitment ensures that no one faces the end of life alone or in pain.

Big Bend Hospice encourages the community to take a moment to recognize and thank CNAs for their unwavering dedication to care. Whether it’s a kind word, a shared memory, or simply acknowledging their presence, a small gesture can go a long way in honoring these everyday heroes.
