At Big Bend Hospice, compassionate care is never the work of one person. It’s built through connections: a physician who recognizes when a patient’s needs have changed, a nurse practitioner who brings comfort into the home, a hospital team that helps a family understand what comes next and a trusted referral partner who knows when to make the call. Those connections can change the course of a family’s experience with serious illness.
That is why I am proud to introduce Big Bend Health’s new medical professionals brochure, which highlights the physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, educators, medical advisers and board professionals who help guide and deliver our care. The brochure is now being shared with health care leaders and referral sources throughout our service area, giving them a clearer picture of the remarkable professionals behind our mission.

Their names and credentials are impressive. Among them are experts in family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, oncology, emergency medicine, critical care, rehabilitation, hospital medicine and hospice and palliative care. Our network also includes nationally recognized leaders, experienced educators and professionals helping prepare the next generation of physicians and nurses.
But credentials tell only part of the story.
What matters most is how that expertise reaches people when they need it. A patient recovering from surgery may begin with skilled home health services. Someone living with a serious illness may benefit from palliative care while continuing treatment. A person nearing the end of life may need the specialized comfort and support of hospice. Through Big Bend Health, these services are connected by one continuum of care and one commitment to helping patients receive the right care at the right time.
Too often, families are asked to navigate a complicated health care system while they are already carrying the weight of illness, uncertainty and fear. They may not know which service is appropriate, whom to call or what questions to ask. Strong relationships among medical professionals, referral partners and community-based providers can make that path clearer.
These connections matter because timing matters. When a referral is delayed, a patient may endure symptoms that could have been managed. A caregiver may continue struggling without the education or support they need. A family may lose valuable time that could have been spent together with greater comfort and peace.
When health care professionals communicate early and work together, patients are less likely to fall through the gaps between a hospital, physician’s office, rehabilitation facility and home. Care becomes more coordinated, families become better informed and patients can remain at the center of every decision.
This kind of collaboration deserves attention well beyond North Florida. Across the country, communities are searching for better ways to care for people as their needs change. Our model begins with a straightforward idea: Patients shouldn’t have to start over every time they move from one level of care to another. Their care should move with them.
For 44 years, Big Bend Hospice has earned the trust of this community one patient and one family at a time. As Big Bend Health grows that legacy through home health, palliative care and hospice, we remain rooted in the same local relationships that made our work possible in the first place.
I am deeply proud of the professionals represented in this brochure. They bring extraordinary experience to their work, but they also bring something that cannot be measured by a degree or professional title: a belief that every person deserves to feel heard, supported and cared for throughout the health care journey.
A brochure may introduce their names and accomplishments, but their true impact is found elsewhere. It is in the relief of a patient whose pain is finally under control. It is in the confidence of a caregiver who now knows what to expect. It is in the gratitude of a family that no longer feels it is navigating serious illness alone.
These professionals represent the very best of Big Bend Health and the communities we serve. I invite our medical partners to learn more about them, connect with our team and help us ensure that every patient receives the right care, at the right time, from people they can trust.
